Project Stabby – 1st road test

I went to the Whiz and I saw Dave making a list, asked him for a 35 pt game – “sure, let’s go”.

The terrain had a pretty large rough terrain in the middle, hills on the left and right.  No other terrain effect the battle.

We rolled Grind for the Scenario.

Dave went first.  Left to right, the Long Riders, Gap —– Gap, Fenblade, Impaler, Mardrak, Mauler, Horthol

The Long Riders ran to the middle and contacted the left objective.  On the right, the Fen Blades ran, but not too far.  Mardrak and the beast hung back a little.  Horthol ran so he was close to the right side objective.

Morghoul was in the middle with a lone line of Beast Handlers.  Advanced Deploy had the Krea and Brute in the middle, the Rhino a little right of center.  The Razor Worms and Blood runners took left and right center.  One bloodrunner master tormenters spread out behind the three groups.

Krea advanced and put spiritual paralysis on the closest Long Rider.  The left Razor worm charged the Long Rider and came up a half inch short.

The Rhino advanced, but not close enough to get charged by more than one Fenblade, with a master tormenter an inch behind.  The bloodrunners stayed further back.

Morghoul charged to the middle into the rough, the Brute put Safeguard on Morghoul.

The right Razor moved up to threaten Horthol.

Round 2
Fenblades poped mini feat, charged and put a couple of points on the Rhino.  Horthol charged right Razor, some damage, but no lost aspects.

Left side Razor was charged by Long Riders and killed.

Mardrak and beasts destroyed the right objective, It moved 6”, knocked the Rhino into master tormenter killing her.

My turn

The Rhino stood up and killed a fenblade.

Right side bloodrunners, charged/ran – killing two Fenblades and repostioning to the right side of the Rhino.

This left a clear charge lane to Mardrak.  The Brute pushed Morghoul and inch closer.  Morghoul cast Silence of Death (no transfer, no heal, no tough) on himself (3 fury left)

Charge – Cast Flashing blades – used Fan – Hit Mardrak and on Fenblade that was close. ( I forgot to roll damage with the Fan of Shadows – big mistake).  Charge attack with Mercy – big hit – damage goes to a Fenblade,  Buy an attack with mercy – there goes the other fenblade…   I sit on one fury,  Pop Assassination Run.

The Krea runs from left rough to the right rough.  The Rhino runs as close to Mardrak as he can get.

The left Bloodrunners and a solo run from left to right and tie up some fenblades.  The beast handlers run to tie up the the other fenblades and get closer to his beasts.

Round 3

He couldn’t hit anything…   +2 DEF from Assassination Run… I think I lost one beast handler…

He used all the fury on the impaler and left on the Mauler for transfers.  So with Mardrak in the center, 12 o’clock is a fenblade, 3 o’clock was the Mauler, 9 o’clock was the impaler, 6 o’clock is Morghoul.

Morghoul apparitions to 1 o’clock behind Mardrack and upkeeps Silence of Death

Beast handlers move and add a fury to the Mauler – he is full

Krea gets spiritual paralysis on Mardrak.

The brute positions to protect the left flank…

Morghoul cast Flashing blades uses the Mercy, Kills the Fenblade, hits Mardrak and I roll 4 on 3 dice.  Buy an attack, roll 6 on 3 dice.  Two points, buy and attack, use the fan to Blind Mardrak –4 MAT will keep me alive I hope.

The bloodrunner clear out most of the fenblades and the right side unit surrounds Horthol (can’t kill him, but he isn’t going anywhere).

Round 4

Frenzy rolls – Mauler goes nuts and kills a beast handler.  Impaler still has 3 fury on it…

The Long Riders and moving left to right, the Brute is damaged, but he slows them down…
The right Razor takes some damage from Horthol, and I lose a bloodrunner, but no other damage.

Krea tries to up spirtiual paralysis on Mardrak, roll a 2…  not a good omen…

The Rhino has a clear shot to Mardrak, charge a couple of hit, damage transferred to Mauler.

Morghoul attack with fan, hit.  Attack with Mercy, big hit….   Buy another Mercy, game over…

Dave’s biggest comment was that he should have moved the Long Riders from left to Right sooner.  He doesn’t like Blind from the Fan of Shadows.  The bloodrunners and solos ignoring free strikes is huge.  Moving to engage and tie up what I needed to prevented the Fenblades or Horthol from coming to Mardrak’s aid…

If I had remembered that the Fan of Shadows is a P&S 8, the game might have ended on turn 2, bad die rolls – maybe on turn 2.  Good game Dave, thanks

One Response to Project Stabby – 1st road test

  1. Lycane says:

Yup thats basically how it went. First time playing grind, mental note: objectives are a pain to move and keep the tough-a-lo in the game. Not on the sidelines.

also if that Mauler didnt frenzy… it would have picked maddy up and thrown him out of there. really good game. First time playing the Monk too.
